There are so many problems plaguing this country and preventing us from unleashing our true potential. We have income inequality, and we have lowering life expectancy due to suicide and depression. We have homeless population living in the streets due to a messed up homeless shelter system. We have problems that need modern solutions.
Universal basic income with financial education:
This program as I discussed here has a simple answer to multiple problems that isn't directly resolved with expansion of the existing programs which are not directly targeted at the core issues that should never be a trend. Financial education can be provided in schools and or in local training centers and or online as well. When people know money management they can prevent financial issues in the long run as they are better prepared in how to properly handle a budget, identify and cut out unnecessary expenses, and how to save and invest in the stock market. This has a long run effect.
Higher Federal Minimum Wage:
Some wages in some states are higher in some regions and lower in some regions. Across the entire country this financially isn't fair for some. A higher federal minimum wage combined with universal basic income will further encourage work rather than discourage it.
Job guarantee program:
While a universal basic income is a great start we may also need some sort of Job guarantee so they don't feel like they don't have to work. Ultimately they will likely get bored. The Job guarantee program has to be complex. We would need to figure out their skills, experience, interests etc. and even let them have a shot in these careers with training and help with further career advancement. If we steer them in a direction where not only are they in the workplace but fulfilling a job they are genuinely interested in then they end up staying encouraged to work given they're in the right social environment and career. The job application and interview process creates an opportunity for descrimination in the interview and application process as well as in the work environment where harassment and abusive bosses can use their power for the wrong reasons. And an expanded jobs guarantee program (that can be run by non profit sharing and work with private businesses and other non profits) would eliminate descrimination plus free people up from abusive employers and jobs they don't like whole decreasing unemployment and or poverty. This necessary program is an investment in the professional development of rhe work force so we end up doing better in the long run. We need to also evenly incentivise companies for creating even amount of more part time and full time jobs, and even amount to keep poverty at a minimum. This can help bring down youth unemployment as well. This program would have to be offered alongside a universal basic income program to keep the creation of job opportunities going and to keep spending in these business so they're not closing due to automation and outsourcing which big brands are likely to do.

Universal healthcare:
We have the most expensive health care in the world. Medicine costs too much and too much power is in the hands of the medical industry. We need increased regulation of the industry overall. Maybe a public health care system which not only has regulation over the prescription medicines but over as much as possible so we can offer lower costs to people. Better options for everyone.
Modernized homeless shelters with increased regulation:
I believe the homeless shelter is stuck in the 20th century. Bunk beds in a large room doesn't sound comfortable. This can affect the social aspect of the shelter system, where people can easily fight with each other, and an increased chance of their stuff being stolen. The shower system in some shelters and all facilities are under maintained. Corrupt Staff can raid the lockers. Lack of security means they may not be safe in the system. This isn't something that can restore hope in those that have felt like they lost it all. We need to give them their own dedicated rooms with showers (so they're out spreading disease and anything), better food, and better security. We need to connect them to jobs and job training and even help them get a bank account so they can collect their Universal Basic Income. And eventually we can transition them to a public owned apartment complex where they can further transition to being independent rather than trapped into the shelter system to free up space for more people in need of proper shelter. By improving their lives not only can we earn their trust but they then also become contributors to society, and that they feel cared for. We need to give them the chance that they deserve to turn their lives around for the better. We also need to oversee everything at the government & state level. We need to set guidelines that the management of the shelters have to follow so we can restore trust in the system so they can live better in the shelter than in the streets.
Overall I think the United States needs to modernize and adjust to the changing needs as we evolve and grow for the better. If we provide a variety of options to help them then they are more better taken care of. These programs prioritize people first.
The Universal Basic Income is backed by Andrew Yang, a 2020 United States presidential candidate that is running with a Universal Basic Income which he brands as the Freedom Dividend.
